Evicshen

Evicshen is a sound performance alias by Victoria Shen who manipulates records and materials of all kinds. Her sounds oscillate between moments of restraint and swells of frenetic and confrontational movement. Eschewing conventions in harmony and rhythm in favor of extreme textures and gestural tones, Shen uses what she calls ‘chaotic sound’ to oppose signal and information, eluding traditionally embedded meaning. Her personal identity, her body, is the space her work utilizes to restructure sonic meaning. In her live performances, she proposes an exploration between meaning and non-meaning through the physical activation of noise tropes. The appendage-like instruments and objects she makes, exemplify Shen’s ability to embody through sound her interest in the tension created by opposition: control and chaos, the unique and the mass produced, the practical and the absurd.

Takuya Nakamura

Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Takuya Nakamura moved to the United States in 1990 to study under the legendary jazz theorist and composer George Russell at the New England Conservatory of Music. Under Russell’s tutelage, Nakamura honed his craft and developed a profound understanding of jazz theory and composition, which would become fundamental to his innovative approach to music. In 94′ Nakamura moved to New York City, where he quickly became a staple in the vibrant Jazz and Jungle scene. His versatility as a musician and DJ allowed him to collaborate with an impressive array of artists across different genres. Takuya became of members of cult bands such as Jojo’s Mayer’s Nerve and Cocorosie. He has worked with legendary figures such as Quincy Jones, David Byrne, and Arto Lindsay, bringing his distinctive sound to numerous recordings and live performances. Takuya Nakamura continues to push the boundaries of music, with recent projects blending his deep jazz roots with cutting-edge electronic production. His dedication to his craft and his ability to transcend genres make him a true pioneer in contemporary music.

BAETRANADA

BAETRANADA with our cousin Rashaad returns to Warehouse on Watts for a night built around groove, warmth, and that signature Play Cousins pulse. This edition brings together a lineup designed to keep the room in motion from the first track to the last.    Special guest DJs Matthew LAW and YNGFU join the bill, each bringing their own flavor to the dancefloor—precision, futurism, and Black musical lineage all meeting in the same orbit.   The night is guided by Liliana Sarey, whose hosting keeps the energy lifted and the crowd connected.   Visual storytelling comes alive through Glitch Jungle, turning Warehouse on Watts into a glowing, shifting environment where the lights and graphics move with the music.   BAETRANADA on December 19th is a celebration of sound, community, and the kind of dancing that makes winter feel warm.
